Dear parents/carers of Year 4 pupil,
RE: Year 4 Summer 1 Curriculum Letter – From Source to Sea!
We hope you all had a restful Easter break. Here is some key information regarding Summer 1 learning.
Our Topic
Our topic is ‘From Source to Sea’ with a focus on rivers in geography and sound in science.
Our first block of learning in English will be based on the book, ‘The Crown’ by Emily Kapff. In whole class reading, we will be reading the book, ‘What A Waste’ by Jess French and using what we have learnt to write persuasive speeches. As well as continuing to learn their times tables off by heart, in maths the children will continue their work on fractions and decimals. In Science we will be studying sound and vibrations.
P.E. Lessons
Please continue to ensure your child wears the appropriate kit to school.

Reading at home: Reading is essential to help your child make progress in all areas of the curriculum. We expect children to continue to read for 20 minutes each day and record their reading in their reading journals which we check on Friday mornings. You can support your child by listening to them read and discussing what has been read.
Maths home learning: Mathletics tasks will be set on Tuesdays weekly and and expected in by the following Monday. In Year 4, children need to continue to learn all the times tables up to x 12. Please encourage your child to practise their times tables regularly and focus on developing quick recall. The aim is to be able to recall each timestable fact rather than counting or calculating. They need to be able to answer quick-fire multiplication questions with time restrictions and would benefit from practising online using websites such as Times Tables Rock Stars (ttrockstars.com) TTRS does not have a hand in date. Your child can practise times tables and test themselves on TTRS and we will also be using this website as a teaching tool at school. Two further websites for online learning of the times tables would be: https://www.timestables.co.uk/ and https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button these websites can be used with a time limit to test speed and accuracy.
Further Home Learning Activities: Please see below.
Thank you again for all your support and, as always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office or in the playground after school.
