Dear Year 5 Parents and Carers,

RE: Science Museum Trip  – Tuesday 30^th June 2026

This term, Year 5 will be visiting the Science Museum to explore the fascinating world of space science and discovery. This will round off learning from last term’s Topic, ‘Out of This World’ and this terms Science learning. During the visit, we will spend time in the museum’s Space gallery, which showcases remarkable objects and stories linked to human space exploration, including rockets, satellites and real spacecraft technology. The gallery helps children discover how space exploration has changed our understanding of the universe and influenced everyday life on Earth.

As part of the trip, the children will also take part in the Wonder Show, an exciting live science show filled with demonstrations and experiments designed to inspire curiosity and awe.

All Y5 classes will go on the same day, Tuesday 30^th June 2026.

The cost for this trip is £2, please pay on SCOPAY via TRIPS & EVENTS.

We will be leaving school promptly at 9:10 am, taking the Overground from Sydenham Station to Whitechapel and then taking a tube to South Kensington. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8:45 am as we are unable to wait for latecomers. We will return by the end of the school day; however, if there are any delays to our journey, we will inform you.

There is no requirement for schools to ask parental permission for trips that take place within the school day. However, if you have any concerns about your child attending this trip please speak to your child’s class teacher.

If you would like to pre-order a FREE school packed lunch for this trip, you must complete the online form below by Thursday 11^th June 2026. This is to ensure that the kitchen staff have sufficient time to order in the correct food.

Alternatively, you can provide your child with a home-made healthy packed lunch which should NOT contain fizzy drinks, sweets, or NUTS (due to pupil allergies). Lunch needs to be fully disposable and in a named carrier bag.

 Your child will need to wear school uniform, school shoes and a waterproof coat.
