Dear Parents/Carers of Year 1,
RE: Year 1 Summer 2 Curriculum – ‘Oh, I Like to be Beside the Seaside’
We hope that you have all had a wonderful break. Our learning journey topic this term is ‘Oh, I Like to be Beside the Seaside’, where the children will be learning and looking at similarities and differences between the two environments and how the history of the seaside has changed over time.
English
We will be writing short narratives based on the stories Goldilocks and Just the One Bear by Leigh Hodgkinson and Billy’s Bucket by Kes Gray. Our focus continues to be independently writing coherent sentences using capital letters, full stops and becoming independent and confident writers.
Maths
The focus in Maths this term is numbers to 100. Children need to be able to count forwards and backwards fluently within 100. To recall one more or one less than a number within 50. We will also be focusing on coins and counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. They will also be learning about money, time, measurements and capacity.
Geography
Based on our topic, we will be learning about the physical and human features of seaside and city environments. The children will be exploring the human and physical features of both environments and identifying similarities and differences.
History
Children will look at what a day at the seaside was like 100 years ago. They will identify similarities and differences between things in the past and now.
Reading
We would really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 1. Children need to continue to bring their book bags to school every day. The books are collected in on a Wednesday and the new books will be handed out on the Friday.
PE – Thursdays
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit every Thursday. This term PE will be outside. School PE kit consists of trainers with Velcro (unless your child is able to do their laces) or plimsoles, plain black or grey shorts/trousers, a white T-shirt and their red school jumper. Please do not send your child into school wearing football shirts or other non-uniform clothing. More details about the sports days will be sent out in due time.
They will also be doing PE on the following dates:
