Dear Parents/Carers of Year 2,
RE: Year 2 Summer 2 Curriculum, ‘Out of the Ashes’
Welcome back to school. We hope that you all had a lovely half term and enjoyed the sunshine. In Year 2, we are looking forward to a busy final term of this academic year. Our topic this term is ‘Out of the Ashes’, during which the children will be comparing life in London in 1666 with life in London now and then learning about the events of The Great Fire of London. In English lessons, they will be writing a fact file about The Great Fire of London. Towards the end of the term, they will be focusing on the story, Vlad and The Great Fire of London, by Kate Cunningham and the children will be writing their own diary entries in the first person.
Reading
We really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 2.
Books and reading records should be brought to school every day. Reading records and books will be collected on Thursday, and new books will be sent home on Friday. New books cannot be sent home until the old ones have been returned.
PE
PE for Year 2 will be on Monday’s and Fridays. Children are to come to school in their full PE kits this includes a plain white shirt, dark bottoms and trainers. Please ensure that children are wearing the correct shoes or they will not be able to take part.

Year 2 home learning project for ‘Near and Far’
Can your child design and make a Maasai shield? Help them to research Maasai shields, then to have a go at creating one of their own. They could use recycled materials like cardboard boxes. Please bring completed shields into school as soon as they are finished so that we can share them with the class.
If you would like to share photos of your child’s work, please email them to year2@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk.
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
