Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,
RE: Centre of the Cell Trip and Heart Dissection Workshop Autumn 2
As the launch into our new topic: ‘Pump it Up’ (about the heart and circulatory system), Year 6 are going on a trip to the Centre of the Cell at Queen Mary, University of London on Tuesday 10th November 2026. Here, the children will watch a show called ‘In a Heartbeat’ and have the opportunity to take part in an interactive pod session. We will be leaving school promptly at 9:00am, taking the overground from Sydenham Station to Whitechapel. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8:45am as we are unable to wait for latecomers. We will return back to school by the end of the school day.
Your child will need a packed lunch for this trip. If you would like to pre-order a FREE school packed lunch, you must complete the online form here by Wednesday 21st October 2026. This is to ensure that the kitchen staff have sufficient time to order the correct food. School packed lunches will only be provided if you complete the form for your child.
Alternatively, you can provide your child with a home-made healthy packed lunch which should NOT contain fizzy drinks, sweets, NUTS or products contain nuts such as Nutella or Kinder Bueno (due to pupil allergies). Lunch needs to be fully disposable and in a named carrier bag.
As we will be going whatever the weather, your child will need to wear school uniform, school shoes and have an appropriate coat.
In addition to the trip to launch the topic, we will be hosting a heart dissection workshop at school on Tuesday 8th December 2026. The workshop is run by Hands on Science. Your child will have a unique opportunity to get ‘hands-on’ with dissecting a lamb’s heart, helping to consolidate their learning about the circulatory system through practical, real-life experience.
There is a total cost of £10.00 per child for the cost of this trip and the heart dissection workshop. If you are able to make payment, please pay via ParentMail.
