Headteacher's Message
Welcome back. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.
I am really impressed by the start all our children have made, adjusting to new classes, teachers and rising to the challenge of new learning.
We have been holding year group Curriculum Meetings in these first few weeks, if you were not able to attend all relevant information and the presentations can be found on the school website.
The partnership between home and school is so important in supporting children’s learning.
We hope to run a number of workshops this year on supporting reading at home. Listening to your child read, and them reading to you will help develop their independence, their imagination, their creativity, as well as ignite their love of learning.
This year we will also be focussing on supporting children’s oracy. Creating more opportunities for talk. In this high tech world where phones, and other devices, dominate adult lives and become more of a way of communication and playing for children, we must make time for adult/child talk at home and at school.
IROKO Workshop
As part of Year 5’s ‘Into Africa’ Topic launch for this term, the children had an exciting opportunity to work with Iroko Theatre Company, an African storytelling production and workshop company based in London.
Year 5 had such a wonderful experience, with an interactive performance and two workshops focusing on dance and storytelling. Thank you to Iroko Theatre Company for coming. You can see more photos and read about the visit in Lavender’s class post.
School Council
This week at School Council we welcomed our new representatives. Representatives have been chosen or elected from each class. Children put themselves forward for this role, and some classes held speeches or shared ideas.
In our first meeting we discussed what we would like our focuses to be for the year:
– improving our school environment in a sustainable way
– making playtimes more enjoyable, with a child led focus
– improving the school toilets.

New Friends in Year 2
Year 2 have welcomed some caterpillars this week as part of their learning this term about life cycles. They are getting bigger everyday and we all can’t wait to see them flourish as butterflies!

The KG Circle
Welcome back to the new school year, we hope all of our children and the KG community have settled back in and are enjoying a fresh new term.
Firstly we’d like to extend our thanks to KG mum and PTA veteran Julia Murray, whose company TPX Impact very kindly donated £500 to the KG Circle. These funds will be put to good use towards much needed resources for our school and children.
We’re now working on our calendar of events for the remainder of 2023 and the start of 2024, so please keep an eye out for news of upcoming dates for your diary!
If you’re interested in getting involved with the KG Circle, either as a member or just to help out with events, please drop us an email. We’d love to hear from you! pta@kelvingrove.Lewisham.sch.uk
Thanks,
Sam, Emily, Jenni, Becky, Einat & Wei
