Headteacher's Message
I hope everyone has an enjoyable week off and that the weather changes for the better, so we can really take advantage of being outside and having fun.
This week half of Year 6 have been having a wonderful time out in France. Those Year 6 that have stayed had a great time at Frylands, where they took part in various outdoor activities. It is so important that we give children these outdoor adventure opportunities.
It is only through this sort of experience that children learn how to cope with situations for themselves. To fall over, brush yourself off and carry on. To get muddy, to work as a team, fall out with each other and then solve problems together. As adults we can sometimes step in too soon for children, both in the context of learning and sorting out problems of friendship.
Our desire and urge to look after our children needs to be carefully balanced, allowing them to become independent and learn how to sort things out for themselves.
I really hope you all get to enjoy some outdoor activities, in some glorious summer weather this week. Next term is a long one but there is loads to pack in to it.
Enjoy the break.
France - Year 6
Year 6 have had an incredible experience away in France this week! They’ve had ample opportunity to use the French they have learnt over the last few years in school, have seen the Bayeux Tapestry, visited Mont-Saint-Michel, Alligator Bay, Caramels d’Isigny and had a moving experience at the Bayeux War Cemetery. It’s been such a wonderful adventure for Year 6 making some life-long memories away with each other.
We’d like to thank the lovely staff at Le Château du Molay for welcoming the children, and of course a huge thank you to Mr Clark and the Year 6 team who gave up their time to look after Year 6.
Catch up on more from their amazing week away through the Latest News link.
Year 6 parents will receive a text over half term with a link to the album of photos.
General Election 4th July
As you will know the government have announced the general election for Thursday 4th July 2024. This means our children who are based in Rose and Magenta classes will be based in our main building that day as the building will be used as a polling station.
Make sure you are ready for voting by ensuring you are registered (or applying for your postal vote) and that you have an accepted form of photo ID.

The KG Circle
We are full flow in planning for the Kelvin Grove Summer Fair which will take place on Friday 5th July. It’s set to be a great event with performances from the KG choir, bouncy castles, carnival games and lots of treats. All fundraising for the KG Circle and improving the school playground.Thank you to those households who signed up for Property World boards, these will be installed at the end of May.
As with all our events, we need help on the day and in the lead up to arrange the event. If you’re interested in helping, even just for an hour, please complete the below form or email: pta@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk
https://forms.gle/agmv8BoYVW4URWmD9
In the meantime, please start keeping jam jars for the Jolly Jam Jar store and keeping an eye out for items that can be used as raffle or tombola prizes. We will start collecting donations from mid June. Raffle tickets and Pre Pay Cards will be available via SCOPAY nearer the time as well.
Can you help increase funding to our school through your company match funding scheme? If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money you raise could be matched by your employer. Companies may match the fundraising total for an event, or for the stall that their employee is working on. More details here.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the PTA or just giving your time to help with events in the run up to and on the day – the success of our events relies on the help and support of the full school community. We hope to see more new faces joining us this year, as always please do come and have a chat to us or drop us an email on pta@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk if you have any questions or want to chat about joining the team.
Thanks,
