Headteacher's Message
This has been a short but very eventful term. Our Year 6 pupils approached their tests with real focus and maturity, well done to them all. Many of them are now enjoying a well-earned trip to France, and we’ve been delighted to share updates and photos from their adventure on the school website. Meanwhile, children who remained in school have had an exciting week of their own, including a trip to Frylands Activity Centre for a day filled with outdoor challenges and team-building activities. A big thank you to the Year 6 staff team for their hard work in supporting all our pupils this week.
Attendance continues to be a key priority for our school. Please remember that term-time holidays cannot be authorised. The school will contact you if your child’s attendance falls below 90%, which is classified as Persistent Absence (PA). This means a child has missed more than one day of school every two weeks on average, and such absence inevitably affects their learning and progress.
We return for the final half term on Tuesday 3rd June, as Monday is an INSET day for staff. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back, and to Year 5’s second residential trip to Nethercott Farm that same week.
Wishing you all a calm and enjoyable May half-term break.
Fabulous France
Year 6 have had a truly unforgettable week away in Normandy, France, where they explored a range of historical and cultural sites, bringing their learning to life and creating lifelong memories. From reflecting at the Bayeux War Cemetery and marvelling at the intricate Bayeux Tapestry, to wandering the stunning island of Mont Saint-Michel and learning about local traditions at Caramels d’Isigny, each day offered new adventures and discoveries. The children also enjoyed exciting activities at Château du Molay, including archery, sensory trails, and team challenges, all while practising their French and bonding as a group.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr. Clark and the dedicated Year 6 team who gave up their time to accompany the children, ensuring they were safe, supported, and having fun every step of the way. Their care and commitment helped make this trip such a special and meaningful experience for everyone involved.

School Council

We’ve had a fantastic response to Walk to School Week, which ran from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd May. Across the school, children took part in a range of exciting activities designed to encourage active travel, spark curiosity and raise awareness of road safety.
Each year group was set a tailored challenge to complete during the week — whether walking to or from school, or heading out for a stroll at another time:
Nursery, Reception & Year 1 went on a rainbow hunt, spotting objects in every colour and documenting them through drawings, writing, and photos.
Year 2 & Year 3 aimed to walk each day, thinking about how walking made them feel and how to stay safe near roads.
Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6 took on a geography-inspired challenge, identifying human and physical features on their walks, then designing eye-catching shoes and slogans to promote active travel.
We’ve loved seeing the enthusiasm, creativity and thoughtful reflections across all year groups. Children’s challenge sheets were full of colour, care and clever ideas — and we can’t wait to award prizes for the most creative entries!
This competition was run in collaboration with Transport for London (TfL) and contributes to our ongoing work towards Gold Accreditation in the Travel for Life campaign. Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the week such a success! 🚶♂️🌈🚌
Frylands Wood Wonder
Year 6 had an action-packed trip to Frylands Wood Scout Outdoor Centre! We tackled rock climbing, impressed our teachers with precision archery skills, and teamed up solve challenges. It was an unforgettable day full of fun, teamwork, and laughter!

Fun in the Garden
This week, children from across the school have enjoyed spending time in the sunshine helping Mrs J in the garden. They’ve been busy weeding, watering the fruit and vegetable beds, and carefully tending to the flowers. One of the highlights was harvesting some delicious strawberries and rhubarb, which everyone was excited to taste! It’s been a real pleasure seeing the children so engaged and enthusiastic about looking after our garden space.
Fantastic Home Learning
We are always so impressed with the children’s creativity and effort with their Home Learning, and this week was no exception!
A big shoutout to Year 3, who amazed us with their fantastic Trojan Horse models. The designs were imaginative, detailed, and clearly showed a brilliant understanding of their topic. Well done, Year 3! You’ve brought history to life in such a creative way!
Communication Reminder
We would like to remind all parents and carers of the correct channels for communication, particularly regarding pupil absence or when sharing concerns or messages for teaching staff.
All emails should be sent to the school office via the main admin inbox: admin@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk
This ensures your message is seen promptly and directed to the appropriate member of staff without delay. This is especially important if you are trying to reach your child’s class teacher, as it allows us to ensure a timely and appropriate response.
Please note that the year group email addresses provided in curriculum letters are for home learning purposes only and are not monitored for general enquiries or absence reporting.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Lost Property
We can’t emphasise enough how important it is for parents and carers to clearly label children’s school jumpers, jackets, coats, bookbags, water bottles and lunch bags with their name.
This helps us to return any lost and found items quickly to their rightful owner/s.
Please speak to the School Office or Mrs Jupp about lost property. All unnamed lost property will kept for a term, any unclaimed items will be sent to the local charity shop to benefit our wider school community.
Pre-loved school uniform is also available from Kids Support Tree – in addition to our official school uniform provider Wearabouts in Sydenham.
