Headteacher's Message
I was on a camp with the Scouts in 1977, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. A wonderfully hot summer as I remember and growing up in a world that seemed so very different to today’s.
If the past few years have taught us anything then it is that change is inevitable and wherever possible we need to embrace it and find the best way forward, learning lessons from the past.
It is likely that education, and indeed Kelvin Grove, is going to go through significant changes these next few years. At this time in the school year I try to look back, reflect and plan ideas for the future. It is part of the process of improving our school.
I hope you all have a great half term, with some time to relax in the sunshine and do things together as a family.
I will spend time reflecting on the last few years and planning forward for Kelvin Grove in 2022-23, hopefully sat in the sunshine!
Jubilee Day
This week the children have been learning all about Queen Elizabeth II and her Platinum Jubilee. They have worked together to make bunting for the school hall and our chef is making everyone a Jubilee Picnic to enjoy at lunch.
Year three have been reading the story ‘The Queen’s Knickers’ and made bunting of their own style!

School Council
Walk to School week
This week in School Council we looked at the data we collected about how we travel to school and how we wished we could travel to school. In conclusion, children would prefer to travel to school in more active ways. More children would like to scoot or cycle to school. We talked about how we could make this change.
Clean Air Day – Thursday 17th June
We talked about the effects of air pollution on our bodies and the planet. We talked about what causes air pollution and what we can do to change this. What can you pledge to do?
Street Trees for Living
Street trees for living have approved four trees to be planted. We talked about what our favourite trees are and why we like them.

School Dinners
As a school we are working really hard on improving school dinners and the school council will be joining a meeting with the school meals provider, Chartwells, next month. Children are being encouraged to eat vegetables and we talked about what our favourite vegetables are.
A Bank of Old Tech
This can be anything from old phones including wind up/cable ones, computers, tablets, modems, games, headphones, keyboards, typewriters, watches (digital and analogue, wall or wrist), toys etc.

Governors' and Friends News
the Governors
We would like to wish all of our families and staff a happy and relaxing half term break. It’s been a busy term for everyone, and this coming week is much needed to relax and reset.
One of our key areas of focus this year has been Diversity & Inclusion. After half term we will be bringing together our thoughts and findings so far on our strategy. The next phase, beginning in September, is to move into agreed areas of action to improve diversity and inclusion, particularly in support of the Lewisham Education anti-racist pledge. We hope to be able to share more with you as we progress.
The Friends

We were lucky enough to be invited to a meeting of the school council, which is made of pupils from each year. We discussed what they would like to see at the fair – ‘Soak the Teacher’ was a very popular activity, as well as crafting, tombolas and bouncy castles. We’re looking to incorporate as many of the school council suggestions into the fair as possible.
We also asked the children how the money we raise should be spent. Play equipment and fun things to do at lunchtime were top of the list. The Friends of KG will look into some ‘easy wins’ like more basketballs and art equipment, whilst also working towards installing monkey bars or similar trim trail equipment in the Paxton Playground which is in need of some much-needed TLC.
Friends of KG are also happy to help Mrs Legouix with the Street Trees for Living project which will be planting trees along Kirkdale in a bid to improve air quality and the general school environment.
