Headteacher's Message
We’ve reached the end of the Spring Term, and Spring is finally beginning to make an appearance. Eid Mubarak to all our families celebrating over the next few days.
Please remember to book your slot for Parents’ Evening, taking place this Tuesday or Wednesday. It’s a valuable chance to discuss your child’s progress, explore ways to support their learning at home, and celebrate their fantastic work in class. We look forward to seeing you.
This week is Autism Awareness Week, and we’ll be celebrating with assemblies and classroom activities. On Friday 4th April, we invite children to wear something blue (be it blue clothes or a simple blue accessory) to show their support.
We’ve recently made two internal appointments to the Senior Leadership Team: Ms. Hicklin is the newly appointed Assistant Headteacher for Special Educational Needs, and Mrs. Lafinhan is the newly appointed Assistant Headteacher for Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning. It is great for the school to have these two experienced members of staff join the Senior Leadership Team.
Friday marks the last day of term, with school finishing at 1:30 pm. Please note, we return to school on Tuesday 22nd April, as Monday is a bank holiday. Summer Term 1 is a very short term, and Year 6, in particular, has a lot packed into those busy few weeks. We hope you all have a wonderful Easter break.
Year 5 Djembe Drumming
Huge congratulations to Year 5 for their absolutely incredible Djembe drumming performance this afternoon! We were truly blown away by the energy and skill they displayed. This performance was a fantastic culmination of all their hard work learning African drumming, and it was clear how much dedication they’d put in. Thank you to everyone who joined us to watch their fantastic performance, we’re so proud of each and every one of them!
School Council

This week, School Council members shared innovative travel challenge ideas inspired by our TFL Ambassador trip. We also discussed upcoming events to raise awareness about environmental challenges we want to address within our school community. It was great to see our Froglife sponsored pond flourishing – a testament to our ongoing commitment to nature. We’re looking forward to a productive Summer term after Easter!
Bee Garden - Volunteers
Buzzing for Volunteers! 🐝 We’re creating a welcoming bee garden and need your help! Parents and children can join Mrs. Jupp to improve this space. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact the school office. We’ll share details about timings and how you can contribute.
Enrichment Clubs
Clubs for the Summer Term have gone live on Scopay today – please see the letter here for full details.
Marvellous Medusa!
Primary Swimming Gala

Our Year 5 and 6 swimmers made us proud at the Primary School Swimming Gala! Not only did they place 3rd in the relay heat, but they also competed with impressive grace and sportsmanship in a huge competitive event. We were particularly impressed with our returning swimmers, who showed great experience, and those who bravely faced their first gala nerves. Their support for each other was outstanding!
Birthday Reminders
BIRTHDAY CAKES, TREATS AND PARTY BAGS
A polite reminder notice regarding birthday cakes, treats and party bags
Please note that we do not share birthday cakes, treats or party bags.
Staff will not be able give these out.
Some of our children have very severe food allergies and must avoid certain foods. This makes these children very vulnerable and it is important that they do not consume foods that may contain items that may cause an allergic reaction. Many parents would rather limit and monitor the amount of treats (sweets, cakes, chocolate and biscuits) eaten by their child/ren.
You are welcome to hand out your treats at the end of the school day to the adult collecting the children so they can check the ingredients before their child consumes the items.
We look forward to celebrating your child’s birthday safely.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Lost Property
We can’t emphasise enough how important it is for parents and carers to clearly label children’s school jumpers, jackets, coats, bookbags, water bottles and lunch bags with their name.
This helps us to return any lost and found items quickly to their rightful owner/s.
Please speak to the School Office or Mrs Jupp about lost property. All unnamed lost property will kept for a term, any unclaimed items will be sent to the local charity shop to benefit our wider school community.
Pre-loved school uniform is also available from Kids Support Tree – in addition to our official school uniform provider Wearabouts in Sydenham.

The KG Circle
We can’t believe it’s already the end of the Spring Term and during these holidays the new playground equipment will be installed which will be a fantastic start to the Summer Term for the children.
You may have noticed we haven’t done an event this half term, this is due to a lack of volunteers. To continue to put on fun events for the children and fundraise for the school, we require volunteers and support – whether that is you can help organise ahead of events, whether you can help on the day or whether you just have ideas – we need support from the KG Community to continue to thrive. If you would like to find out more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via email pta@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk or come along to one of the KG Circle coffee mornings.
We are really excited to try something new next term, with the first KG Circle Movie Time. We will be hosting two events, one for each Key Stage on:- Wednesday 23rd April showing: Toy Story – KS1 (Reception, Years 1 and 2)
- Thursday 24th April showing Despicable Me – KS2 (Year 3, 4, 5 and 6)
Tickets are £4 and will include snacks and drink as well as watching the movie. The event will be supervised by school staff as well as KG Circle volunteers. Tickets can be purchased via SCO Pay from Monday 31st March. If these prove popular, we will look to put more events on in the future.

Remembering Yesterday, Caring Today is a series of reminiscence sessions offered to people living with dementia and a supporter (a partner, son, daughter, sister or a friend, for instance).
From early memories such as schooldays, we then explore travel, working lives and setting up homes. We use music, role play, discussion and art to create a light-hearted atmosphere for sharing memories and bringing people closer together.
The sessions will be led by Caroline Baker and Annie Pownall from the European Reminiscence Network, both skilled and experienced facilitators. Each session will be supported by volunteers who have an understanding of dementia, group work and the art of reminiscence.
To become a participant or volunteer and find out more, please get in touch with Caroline at information.ryct.projects@gmail.com or phone 020 8852 9293
