Headteacher's Message
Despite the weather, we have made a really good start to the Summer term.
I will continue to remind you about the difficulties we are having with traffic, especially on Dallas Road, cars attempt to get as close to the school as possible for drop off. If you must drive to school, please park a distance away and walk.
The issue of having dogs on school grounds has been raised and I will make the schools stance clear to everyone. Dogs are not generally permitted on our school site. You are of course entitled to walk your dog on the school run but please be mindful that so many children do have a fear of dogs, as lovely as yours might be.
One or two individuals have referred to the fact that their dog is a “support dog”, if this is the case please discuss this with the office or premises staff before coming on site.
Remember that this Monday (6th May) is a Bank Holiday and for those of you with children in Year 6, the week of the 13th – 17th May is SATs week.
Please ensure your child is in school and on time.
As we begin this long and challenging term it would be good to remind ourselves that calmness, kindness and consideration of others helps build a safe and happy community.
Morning Gate Access
A reminder to Parents:
Please note only parents who are dropping their children to Breakfast club in the morning should be going through the reception class playground gate. Some parents have been using this gate before the school is open to gain access to other playgrounds which are not yet staffed. Parents should not be on school premises before the school is open to pupils for morning registration. If you are early there are some benches available near the school office entrance you can use. Many thanks for your cooperation.
Nethercott - Year 5

Year 5 had a fantastic experience down at Nethercott Farm last week, making memories and learning a breadth of new skills. The children spent the week thoroughly immersed in farm life, they learnt to care for the lambs, donkeys, horses, baby chicks and cows, they prepared beds for planting and harvested vegetables and fruit – they even had cooking sessions, using the ingredients they had picked that day. All round the children had a wonderful time.
We’d like to thank the amazing staff at Nethercott Farm and Farms For City Children for welcoming the children, and of course a massive thank you to the KG Teachers and TA’s who gave up their time to look after Year 5.
Catch up on more from their wonderful week away through the Latest News link.

Autism Acceptance Week
At KG, we celebrated Autism Acceptance Week across last week – celebrating our wonderfully diverse school through a variety of different activities both in the Resource Base and our mainstream classrooms.
In celebration of the National Autistic Society’s theme “colour”, on Friday children came to school dressed in their most colourful (and comfortable!) clothes. Thank you to all the parents and staff who joined in and helped us bring an important spotlight on Autism Awareness.

Club Xtra Creativity!

Club Xtra were looking at different ways they could recycle and repurpose milk jugs into something else. They came up with a brilliant idea and transformed the bottle into a piece of fun playground equipment for KS1 to play with during their lunchtime play. Year 1 absolutely adore them and have even asked for more. Stay tuned to see what other creative crafts Club Xtra get up to this term!
May the Fourth Be with you!
Year 6 worked hard last term learning how to draw Manga and looked closely at the work of comic book and manga artist (and writer) Peach Momoko. This term, Year 6 were inspired by some of her recent Star Wars cover artworks and recreated their own impressive interpretations using watercolours and drawing inks – just in time for Star Wars Day – Saturday May 4th !Attendance
As the weather hopefully improves over the Summer Term, we would like to see our Attendance % increase as well.
Please avoid getting a late mark by ensuring children arrive in the playgrounds by 8:40am. They should be ready to start learning in class at 8:45am.If your child is unwell and you are not sure whether to send them to school, you can find some useful information here Is my child too ill for school? – NHS
Please try your best to make routine GP/dentist/optician appointments outside of school hours.
If your child will be absent, please do remember to contact the school office by 9am. You can either complete an absence form, email the admin team or call us on 0208 699 6300 (a voicemail can be left at any time if the office is closed).

The KG Circle
In another fundraising milestone, £1500 has now been raised for The KG Circle through easyfundraising. Funds raised will go into improving the school playground. You can raise funds for The KG Circle at no extra cost to yourself. When you shop online, you will raise FREE donations for Kelvin Grove Charitable Trust (The KG Circle). If you’re not already signed up, then you can begin using the easyfundraising website or app straightaway.
The Summer Fair will be held on Friday 5th July and we need your help to make it the best yet. Local estate agent Property World is once again sponsoring the KG Summer Fair. We urgently need your help to take full advantage of this sponsorship and ask your permission to place a Property World board outside your home for the month of June. The boards not only help to promote our fair, but for each board placed the school earns a generous £10!
This year we are aiming for 60 KG families to agree to have a property board at their home address, as this
would generate £600 of pure profit for our school!
If you are able to help with this sponsorship drive, then please send complete the form below by Friday 10th May.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the PTA or just giving your time to help with events in the run up to and on the day – the success of our events relies on the help and support of the full school community. Common Walking Theatre
For 400 years the site of Sydenham Common was fought over!
There were pitched battles, acts of sabotage, drinking water spiked with alcohol and month long festivals, in an attempt to keep this vast green space for the people.
Today there are green areas in Sydenham and Forest Hill that only exist because of those who battled – and continue to battle – to keep them.
Lewisham based site specific theatre experts Teatro Vivo will take you on an adventure across the former site of Sydenham Common – visiting the treasures of the local area and celebrating the protests and passion of the locals.
The show will be outside and will take you on a gentle walk of 1.2k starting at Sydenham Wells Park
Where: Sydenham Wells Park
Tickets: from £12.50
When: Tuesday 7th – Sunday 12th May, 7.00pm
