Headteacher's Message
Four busy weeks ahead and it does feel like summer has finally arrived with this glorious weather.
Next Friday is our Summer Fair organised by the KG Circle. Please, please if you are able to help out on a stall contact one of our committee members who will be grateful for your support.
The response to ‘Ready, Steady, Read’ this week has been amazing, with some children raising over £100 by themselves.
All the money raised will go to buying reading books across the school. Thank you so much for you support.
Staff are busy finalising assessments and writing reports, as well as organising Sports Days and end of term events.
Please note Sports Days begin next Friday 5th July in the morning and over the following week. The dates are below in the newsletter.
Arrangements of classes and teachers for 2024-25 school year will be sent out in the week of the 15th July.
Hope to see you all next Friday.
Sports Days 2024

See the timetable above (click to enlarge) for the date of each year group Sports Day this term. We will be starting next week with Year 6 on Friday 5th July.
Please note Reception and Year 1 will be on site at school and Years 2 – Year 6 will be held at Wells Park.
Please see the letter for more details and keep an eye out for texts from your child’s class teacher about any specific colour children should wear on the day.
School Council

School Council are celebrating that our Day of Play project has been awarded funding from the International Day of Play Community Fund, supported by LEGO Foundation. In our last meeting we started planning our Day of Play. Before the end of term, children will have and additional playtime in the school day and have the opportunity to play in a different play space to the one they normally play in. The playgrounds will be set up to encourage different sorts of play and encourage a range of play experiences. Watch can’t wait to get started and start to spend this funding to improve our playtimes in a sustainable way. Thanks to ChangeX too!

Call for Parents!

Year 3’s topic this term is Windrush and while learning about this they will also be exploring what it means to move and settle into another country. Year 3 are asking if any of our Kelvin Grove families (not just Caribbean) who have migrated from another country to the UK would be willing to share their stories and talk to Year 3.
Please speak to the Year 3 teachers for more information.
General Election 4th July
A reminder that the general election is next week on Thursday 4th July. This means our children who are in Rose and Magenta classes will be based in our main building during that day as the building will be used as a polling station.
Make sure you are ready for voting by ensuring you have an accepted form of photo ID.
Lost Property
This helps us to return any lost and found items quickly to their rightful owner/s. This will also stop any confusion, particularly with similar items or children who own the same type of packed lunch/water bottle.Unnamed lost property will be displayed by the pod in the main playground from 8.30 am – 8.45 am and again at 3.15 pm – 3.30 pm on a regular basis. All unclaimed items will be sent to the local charity shop to benefit our wider school community.
Pre-loved school uniform is also available from Kids Support Tree – in addition to our official school uniform provider Wearabouts in Sydenham.Windrush Celebrations
This year, Windrush Day fell on Saturday 22nd June. On Monday Mr Hyde spoke about the the enduring legacy of Windrush and celebrating the vast contributions the Windrush generation have made to our country and culture. As part of our Windrush celebrations, the chef prepared a Caribbean inspired meal for lunch and Year 3 held a KG Carnival! The children created carnival masks and headdresses, then lead a parade around the school in the afternoon going through the playgrounds over to Nursery and Reception before making their way to the Ball Court for a dance off! There was even time to meet up with other year groups in the main playground for more festivities!
Ready, Steady, Read!
Ready, Steady, Read has brought the whole school together, celebrating the children’s love for reading in a sponsored read held across last week. The project has been organised with Usbourne Books who agreed that all the money raised will go towards brand new books for our school. In addition to the sponsorship money, Usbourne will also donate up to 60% of the total raised in extra free books. We are very proud of the children at KG who have taken part in this so enthusiastically and would like to congratulate them on raising a staggering amount! Children have been reading more than ever for the event and some individuals have raised over £100 alone. In total the children have raised an incredible £3656.07!! Well done all! To those who raised a little and those who raised a lot, every penny counts! Thank you to all the children who took part and thank you to the parents, carers, family and friends who sponsored our readers.
We would also like to say a huge Thank you to Miss Bines for organising everything for the sponsored read and being our reading champion!

Hear it Live
Returning to the Horniman by popular demand, this month’s Hear it Live! offers a unique opportunity to experience Letty Stott’s captivating performance on the conch shell and other unconventional horn instruments! Join us on Thursday 11th July to experience a unique performance by Letty Stott.
Letty Stott is one of the UK’s most innovative and versatile horn players. As a multi-genre orchestral and chamber musician, she has worked with major orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia and many others.
Letty has developed her career as a specialist musician, working with unusual forms of horn. These range from conch shells and natural instruments, to Tibetan Dung Chen horns and ancient forms of horn including Cornu, Karnyx and Salpinx. In 2023, among other projects, she worked with film composer Lior Rosner (Game of Thrones, X-Men Apocalypse) on Echoes of the Ancients, a piece written for Letty and trombonist John Kenny.
Hear it Live! often includes performances on our four historical keyboard instruments, three of which, from the former Finchcocks Musical Museum, were restored to playing condition thanks to National Lottery funding.
The instruments are:
- A rare surviving example of a signed Neapolitan virginals by Onofrio Guarracino, 1668;
- A beautifully-preserved square piano by Adam Beyer, London, 1777;
- A 1772 Kirckman harpsichord; and
- A handsome English chamber organ, possibly by Joseph Beloudy, London, c.1800.
