Headteacher's Message
The next two weeks are packed with end of term events and I hope you all get a chance to come and see our wonderful Seasonal Shows.
Next Friday 15th December the KG Circle have organised a Winter Festival. Please contact one of the committee if you are able to help out and come along on the day to enjoy an hour or so of food, drink and winter stalls.
I am making a plea to all of you who drive here to drop children off safely and respectfully. On the main Kirkdale Road parking is making it difficult for children to be able to cross the road safely. Cars do speed up this road and children who need to cross do not have a clear view up and down the road. This last week there has been no road crossing assistant and I have been horrified by the actions of some drivers.
At Dallas Road on the other side of the school the situation of parking on the yellow lines and reversing as children cross continues. If you have to drive to school please park further away and walk the last few minutes. I am really concerned that a serious accident will happen soon, so please, if you have to drive your child to school, be considerate.
At the end of this term we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Campbell (Katie) who has worked here at KG for 23 years. She is moving to a new teaching job and although pleased for her, we will all miss her. She has given such fantastic service to this school and the KG Community, I thank her on your behalf and wish her well.
School Council
In our latest School Council meeting we looked at the results from the air monitoring tubes which we put up in July this year. These tubes measure the level of nitrogen dioxide pollution. The legal annual average target is 40 micrograms per cubic metres of air; although the World Health Organisation states that there is no safe level of air pollution levels to breathe in.
We looked at teaching materials produced by Asthma and Lung and discussed what makes a difference to the levels of pollution in the air and the impact this has on us.

School Council previously carried out an air monitoring test in the same set up in 2019. Tubes were placed in the same locations.

This shows that there has been a drop in the nitrogen dioxide pollution in the air around the school.
Previously School Council produced posters for Clean Air Day, to encourage people to think about how we can improve the air we breathe. Tanshikaa and Alba F’s posters won a competition held by Asthma + Lung.
Thank you to Asthma + Lung who provided us with the monitoring tubes and teaching resources.

Upcoming Festive Events

Club Xtra Winter wonders
Children at Club Xtra have thrown themselves into the winter season with glee! This week alone they have been working incredibly hard on upcycling old jars into beautiful winter snow globes, and creating unique festive cards.

They even decorated our Christmas tree in the Main Hall. Well done and thank you Club Xtra!
Christmas Jumper Day 2023
What an amazing turn out we had yesterday for Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day 2023! Thank you to all the children and staff for joining in with such high spirits and fabulous Christmas accessories. We thank everyone for donating generously too.
We can’t wait to see the Christmas attire you’ll all wear when we have round two with KG’s Christmas Jumper and Festive Dinner day on Tuesday 19th December.
Human Rights Day Event

This week five children in Year 5 were given an incredible opportunity to go to London and visit the Foreign Office where they spoke on stage to an audience (including members of parliament!) about Human Rights. The school were invited as part of the Human Rights Day event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We were so impressed and proud of the children who went, a huge congratulations to Betty, Blake, Eloise, Mason and Samuella for their excellent conduct, enthusiasm, and eloquent speeches, they were truly fantastic representatives of Kelvin Grove.
Look out for a more detailed post coming next week with the children’s speeches and a gallery of photos!

Lost Property
All lost property is stored in the ClubXtra cupboard. Alison Jupp, our ClubXtra Manager, will get the lost property out every couple of weeks for parents to look through and find anything they may have missing. Unnamed and uncollected items will be sent to the local charity shop. Alison will next display the lost property by the pod in the main playground on Fridays from 3.15pm.
