Mint class have had such a busy start to the term, it’s been non stop!
In maths we have been adding 2-digit and 3-digit numbers with regrouping, it has been tricky and rewarding work! Last week we were using bar models to help us solve multi-step word problems and this week will be moving on to subtracting. Subtracting 1s, 10s and 100s from 3-digit numbers.
We have started our whole school ‘Take One Artist’ project this week, looking at the American abstract artist Helen Frankenthaler. We explored different painting techniques recreating her free and wild movements. We have really enjoyed this process!
In Reading we have been retrieving information from a text and practicing our fluency, particularly our pronunciation of new and unfamiliar words. The book we are studying is Africa: Amazing Africa: Country by Country, written by Nigerian storyteller Atinuke. It has lots of wonderful information about the different regions in Africa and we have been gathering so many interesting facts! We have also been learning the difference between a continent and a country. Did you know there are almost 600 species of bright and beautiful birds in Eritrea!
In science we have been learning all about light and identifying light sources. Natural light sources, like the sun, lightning and fires, and artificial light sources like lamps and torches. This week we looked at reflective surfaces. It was really interesting learning how mirrors work and we are eager to find out more next week.
