Headteacher's Message
It’s great to see everyone enjoying the sunshine and ready for what is always a busy and eventful Summer Term. We are already off to a fantastic start with Year 5 and some of our Year 6 pupils having been away at Nethercott Farm, returning with lots of stories and experiences to share. There are many more exciting trips and enrichment opportunities planned for all year groups over the coming weeks.
Friday, 20th June, is World Refugee Day and the theme this year is “Community as a Superpower”. On the same day we have our Summer Fair and a fantastic opportunity to showcase what an incredibly diverse, cohesive and powerful community we have here at KG. An event which is always a highlight in the school calendar and we are incredibly grateful to the PTA for their hard work in organising this event. It is shaping up to be a brilliant afternoon for the whole community. If you’re able to give an hour to help out on a stall, please do speak to one of the PTA team, they would really appreciate the extra hands.
We’re also looking forward to welcoming families into school for Sports Days later this term. This year these will take place on the school site, which allows us to manage the day more effectively and gives us the flexibility to adapt if the weather changes. Please see the letter and the timetable below for full details.
The warm weather looks set to stay, so please make sure your child brings a refillable water bottle to school each day, and that any jumpers, bikes, scooters and helmets are clearly labelled with their name or initials. These small steps really help us keep belongings safe and children comfortable throughout the day.
Please keep an eye on the school website and texts for all upcoming summer dates. We’re looking forward to a positive and exciting few weeks ahead.
Nethercott Farm trip Two!
Our Year 5’s and some Year 6 children had a wonderfully unforgettable week away Nethercott Farm in Devon, where they experienced everything Farm Life has to offer, forged new friendships and made memories they’ll remember for years to come. It’s always a highlight in Year 5 for our children to experience their first residential (sometimes their first time away from home!) and it would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of Mrs Heron-Njie.
A huge thank you goes to Mrs Heron-Njie and the dedicated team of KG staff who gave up their time to accompany the children, ensuring they were all supported, and enjoying each and every new opportunity. Their care and commitment is what makes this trip such special part of Year 5.

Year 1 Stay and Share
Year 1 are delighted to share lots of recent work with parents next week! Friday, 27th June, from 8:45am – 9:20am parents and carers are invited in to class to see all the lovely things the children have been working on recently and share in their successes of the year. We hope to see all Year 1 parents/carers there!
School Council

A big thank you to all the children who took part in the Walk to School Week challenges. School Council had a fantastic time reviewing everyone’s brilliant entries and were so impressed by the creativity shown, especially the eye-catching artwork and catchy slogans!
Special thanks go to our Travel Ambassadors, who helped shape the week by attending a workshop at the Transport for London headquarters to plan the activities.
Children who completed the challenges took home prizes today, including a hi-viz Vision Zero bag and either a water bottle or a keyring, and were presented with a certificate during assembly.
Thank you to Micro Scooters, and Alan Dowling, Road Safety Officer for Lewisham, for kindly providing the prizes. More prizes will be up for grabs in our raffle at the School Fair on Friday!
This week also marks Brake’s Kids Walk Week, which promotes road safety. Here are some brilliant slogans created by Year 5:
“Don’t drive and you’ll thrive!”
“Use your feet to get down the street!” – Nancy
“Fuel your body, not a car!” – Heyfa
“Walk strong, live long!” – Esther
“Walk where you go, the Earth will thank you. You know!” – Liya-Blessing
“Walking keeps you fit and can be done in a bit!” – Chyna-Lily
“Don’t walk your dog. Walk yourself!”
“Be on the pavement or be endangered!” – Rihanah
“If you want to get grooving, get your legs moving.”
“Pick up your feet to go along with the beat.” – Alice
“Slow down, look around, no accidents to be found.” – Margheritta
Well done to everyone who took part and shared their road safety messages, what a creative and thoughtful bunch you are!
Street Art Hunt!
All three Year 5 classes have been out and about exploring our local area on a fantastic walking tour from Sydenham to Penge. The children were treated to some lovely sunshine as they took in the vibrant and varied street art right on our doorstep.
It was an exciting opportunity to see in real life some of the artworks they’ve been studying in class. There was a real sense of excitement as pupils spotted familiar styles and artists, including the neon light-inspired pieces by Fat Cap Sprays and the eye-catching pixelated birds and portraits by Aspire, both clear favourites!
Along the way, the children took time to pause and create their own sketches, capturing the details of the artwork in their sketchbooks. It was a brilliant way to practise observational drawing and connect what they’ve learned in the classroom with their local surroundings.
A huge well done to Year 5 for their curiosity, creativity, and brilliant behaviour on the day!

Green Fingers
Over the past few weeks, children from Year 5 and 6 have been lending a hand in the school garden. They’ve been busy harvesting produce, preparing the beds for new planting, and sowing seeds for the next round of fruit and vegetables. As well as working in the beds, the children have been weeding and tidying planters around the school grounds, helping to refresh and improve our outdoor spaces. It’s been fantastic to see their teamwork, care, and pride in making the school environment look its best!
Summer Fair This Friday!
Our Summer Fair is this Friday and we can’t wait! The weather is set to be sunny and clear, and the KG Circle have organised a brilliant event for our Community.
There will be lots happening including, a bouncy castle, classic games, balloon modelling, delicious food from around the world, and of course, our ever-popular raffle with some fantastic prizes, including:
* Restaurant vouchers from Wagamama and Nando’s
* A Mama Dough Pizza Party
* VR experiences
* Shopping vouchers and much more, all generously donated by our local community.
If you’re able to, we would really appreciate donations of cakes for our cake stall. These can be homemade or store-bought, but please remember no nuts. Cakes should be dropped off to the school office by Friday morning.
We hope to see as many of you there as possible! Join us from 3.15pm – 5.00pm
Communication Reminder
We would like to remind all parents and carers of the correct channels for communication, particularly regarding pupil absence or when sharing concerns or messages for teaching staff.
All emails should be sent to the school office via the main admin inbox: admin@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk
This ensures your message is seen promptly and directed to the appropriate member of staff without delay. This is especially important if you are trying to reach your child’s class teacher, as it allows us to ensure a timely and appropriate response.
Please note that the year group email addresses provided in curriculum letters are for home learning purposes only and are not monitored for general enquiries or absence reporting.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Lost Property
We can’t emphasise enough how important it is for parents and carers to clearly label children’s school jumpers, jackets, coats, bookbags, water bottles and lunch bags with their name.
This helps us to return any lost and found items quickly to their rightful owner/s.
Please speak to the School Office or Mrs Jupp about lost property. All unnamed lost property will kept for a term, any unclaimed items will be sent to the local charity shop to benefit our wider school community.
Pre-loved school uniform is also available from Kids Support Tree – in addition to our official school uniform provider Wearabouts in Sydenham.
