Headteacher's Message
As we move further into the new school year, it has been wonderful to see children becoming increasingly confident in their new classes and engaging with the learning taking place across the school. Each week, we are also focusing on a particular behaviour through our Behaviour Sprints, helping to re-establish good learning practices and positive learning behaviours across the school. So far, our focuses have been “We show proof of listening” and “We speak to be heard”. Please ask your children what our focus is each week and talk to them about how they are putting these behaviours into practice.
With the warmer weather still with us, the children have been making the most of their playtimes, enjoying being outside with their friends and making the most of our outdoor spaces.

Attendance remains a strong priority for us. The beginning of the school year is an important time for children to build strong foundations, establish good routines and settle into their learning. Being in school every day and arriving on time means children do not miss valuable learning and can make the most of the opportunities in front of them. A particular well done to Year 5, who have reached our school target of 95% attendance this week. Thank you to the children, parents and carers who have helped them achieve this.
As part of our focus on getting children to school safely and on time, where possible we encourage families to walk to school. For those who need to drive, please consider parking further away and walking the rest of the way to the school gates. In particular, please do not drive or park on Dallas Road or Brickwood Close. There is not enough space on these roads for safe drop-offs or parking, and dangerous driving creates a significant risk to our children. We are also aware that residents are becoming increasingly frustrated by unsafe driving and parking. Please consider the safety of our children and our wider community when travelling to and from school.
This year, we are also placing a particular focus on reading for pleasure. Reading has always been a priority at Kelvin Grove, both in school and at home, and we want to encourage every child to develop a genuine love of reading. That might be a comic book, a chapter book, a magazine, a non-fiction book or something completely different. What matters is that children find the books and styles that interest them and discover the enjoyment that reading can bring. A huge thank you to everyone who visited our Book Fair and bought books. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout and so many children excited to choose their next book.
Our Parents’ Evenings are coming up in the next few weeks, and a letter with information about booking appointments has been sent out today. This is a valuable opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, talk about their progress and find out how they are getting on in their learning. Please make sure you book an appointment and take the opportunity to speak with your child’s teacher.
Finally, a huge thank you to the KG Circle for organising our nomination for the Tesco Stronger Starts Campaign, and to everyone who took the time to shop, vote and support Kelvin Grove. We are delighted to announce that the KG Community Garden has won. This funding will help us continue developing our community garden, creating an even better outdoor space for our children and wider school community. It is another wonderful example of what we can achieve when our community comes together.
Parents' Evening
Parents’ Evening opens for Bookings on ParentMail online and through the app, this Monday 5th October 2026, at 1:00pm.
See the linked letter here for full details.
Please note Cinnamon Class Parents’ Evening days are different.
If you have any questions or need any help with making your booking, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office, who will be happy to assist.
Nursery Places
Is your child turning 3?
We would like to remind families that children are entitled to a nursery place from the age of 3, and we currently have spaces available in our nursery.
Our nursery provides a caring and nurturing environment where children can learn, play and develop their confidence as they take their first steps into school life.
If your child is approaching 3, or you would like to find out more about the spaces we currently have available, please contact the school office. We would be very happy to answer any questions and have a chat with you about what we can offer.
Iroko Theatre
Ellie Reeves
It was wonderful to welcome Ellie Reeves MP to our community recently. She spent time with us, hearing about the work we’re doing and the opportunities we’re creating for local families, including our new Free Breakfast Club initiative.
We want to help give local children the best possible start to their day, while creating a welcoming and supportive space for families in our community.
There’s lots more to share, so stay tuned for further details, with the initiative launching after half term. We can’t wait to tell you more.
Thank You!
Medical and Dietary
Are your child’s medical and dietary needs up to date?
Please take a moment to check on SIMS Parent that we have the most up-to-date information about your child’s medical conditions, allergies and dietary requirements. If anything has changed, please let the school office know as soon as possible.
KG Circle AGM!
Whether you’re a new parent to the school or have been part of our community for years, this is a great opportunity to find out more about the KG Circle, hear about the difference it makes to our school and discover how you could get involved.
There’s no commitment to sign up or volunteer — just come along, meet other parents and find out more. We’d love to welcome new and familiar faces and encourage everyone to get involved in whatever way works for them.
Please read the full details in the linked letter, and we hope to see you there!
Mobile Phone Free Zone
As announced previously, our school is a mobile phone-free zone. We kindly ask all parents, carers and visitors to support us by keeping mobile phones out of sight while on the school site. Together, we can promote a focused, connected and child-centred environment.
Our Mobile Phone Policy is now available online for parents and carers to read. A link to our Mobile Phone Agreement has also been shared this week. This should be completed and signed for any child who may need to bring a mobile phone to school.
Permission will be granted for children who require a mobile phone for medical needs or who walk to and from school independently.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us establish clear and consistent expectations around mobile phone use.
Please see the letter from Mr Hyde for more details on this update here.

I hope everyone has settled well into the new school year. This week, the Full Governing Body met to discuss the school’s priorities for the year ahead and how governors can continue to support the school, its pupils and the wider school community.
We look forward to working closely with the school throughout the year and supporting its ongoing development and priorities.
We will also shortly be holding elections for the parent governor vacancies on the Governing Body. More information about the vacancies and how to stand for election will be shared with parents and carers soon. The KG Circle
Working with Mr Murray and the School Gardener, Nina, we are planning to start work on the Community Garden in November and have a few open weekend sessions where the school community can come together to help build the raised beds. For this to happen, we need people who are skilled with tools and DIY but also those who are happy to help with lifting, shifting and planting. If you would like to be kept in the loop or hear more, please sign up using the form here.
As a registered charity, we will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday 16th October after drop off (9.00 am) at school. All parents and carers are welcome. There will be complementary hot drinks and light refreshments available. We will use this time to talk through our achievements from the past year, showcase what we would like to achieve next year and discuss further opportunities for people to be involved.
Don’t forget, every Thursday KG Family Mornings are running in the Children Centre. This is a parent run free stay and play for parents with children under 5. Tea, coffee and toast is provided for free.
