Headteacher's Message
Its Parents’ Evening next week and I hope you all get an opportunity to come and meet your child’s teacher and talk about the learning goals for the year.
It is so important that the partnership between school and home is strong. Your child’s learning is at the heart of all we do. Our teaching and learning review this week celebrated the fantastic learning and wonderful inclusion that is our school. This success is down to the hard work of teachers, teaching assistants and the strong partnership with you.
We are also holding a number of meetings to help explain our approach to phonics, reading and the wider curriculum, these will help you support your children’s learning at home – especially their reading. If there are issues you would like to discuss about your child, please speak to the class teacher on Parents’ Evening.
Learning at Kelvin Grove is about developing a lifelong love of learning and the skills required to achieve this, no matter the challenges.
Starting Secondary School in September?
The official closing date for online applications is 31st October 2022, this also applies to submitting any required supplementary forms to support your application (although we recommend that you submit your application prior to this date). Supplementary forms are available from the individual chosen schools that you are applying for. You can read more here: Secondary Transfer @KG
Parents will be notified by email of their allocated school place on 1st March 2023. Please contact the school office if you require any further assistance.
Lewisham Council have shared with us, the new ‘starting secondary school in Lewisham‘ video which features some wonderful students and parents from Deptford Green, Conisborough College and Forest Hill School.
Please share this with your children, it’s a warm, funny and informative video that helps answer some questions and alleviate some of those worries about transition.

Governors' News
the Governors
This week the Pupils, Parents & Community Committee met. We had a packed agenda and covered a lot of ground.
One of the topics we covered was attendance. It’s so important that children are in school, and on time. Please try to get your children to their lines/classrooms by 8.40am so that learning can start at 8.45. Children arriving late miss out on vital early learning and cause disruption to the rest of the class. Every child at KG should have the same opportunities and experiences and this can only happen if they are present and on time.
We also discussed the Home School Learning Agreement, which was sent to all families a couple of weeks ago. If you haven’t already please can you read and sign the agreement with your child. The HS Agreement outlines everyone’s responsibilities around safety, behaviour, learning and health, to ensure that children have the best school experience.
Thanks to everyone who baked and bought cakes on Monday. The Friends of KG raised £292, which will be split between FoKG and the mental health charity: ‘Get Ahead’.
