Headteacher's Message
I have taken a lot of prospective parents around our school in the last few weeks. It is at this time of year that parents choose the school place for 3/4 year olds who will be in Reception next year.
It is wonderful to walk around our school. Each classroom looks fantastic with displays of learning and words, ideas and methods arranged around the room to help children become independent.
Children’s books exemplify the effort they are putting in and the progress they are making. Each room has a gentle buzz of engaged children, enjoying their learning.
I feel so incredibly proud to be the Headteacher of such a wonderful, inclusive school, with such brilliant children.
We have a community rich in diversity. We recognise, respect and celebrate the difference in language, faith, culture, the different abilities each of us brings and the difficult challenges each of us face in developing to our full potential as learners.
The school tours will end in January and all applications for School places next year need to be completed. Please contact the office if you have a child who will start Reception in September 2024 and you need help with the application.
If you know of parents who are applying and have not yet visited the school, please ask them to call the office or book on one of our tours.
Odd Socks Day 2023!

Last Friday, in support of Anti-Bullying Week 2023, the KG community wore odd socks for Odd Socks Day. The turn out form children and parents was amazing, with so many of you getting involved! We thank all the parents and carers who helped their children pick out the most vibrantly miss-matched socks, and a massive shout out to those of you who wore some too!
The idea behind Odd Socks Day is that it’s not bad to stand out, and kids can be proud of their uniqueness and differences. This was also to help raise awareness about bullying and the impact on people’s lives.
In classes across the school children discussed who they could talk to about bullying and how best to support their friends. Classes worked on collaborative poems and made posters to ‘Make a Noise About Bullying!’ which will be proudly displayed around school.
Fantastic Home Learning

It has been delightful to see so many children bringing in their Home Learning projects with such pride this week.
The Home Learning projects give children a chance to showcase the learning they have done in school as well as giving them the opportunity to delve even deeper in to class topics.

Gold Medal!
A huge congratulations to Ethan, in Y3, who took part in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition in Brighton over the weekend and won Gold!
We’re all very proud and can’t wait to see what you do next.
Well done!
Take One Artist 2023

This week saw the start of our whole school art project, ‘Take One Artist’. This year’s artist is American abstract painter Helen Frankenthaler.

Classes across the school have begun learning about her style of painting and are thoroughly enjoying the dive into abstract expressionism! It’s been great fun so far and we look forward to seeing the creativity of all year groups further flourish in the coming weeks.

Governors' and Friends News
the Governors

There has been coverage in the news recently regarding the relationship between families and schools, and how this has changed since Covid. Research is suggesting that the strong bond and social contract between families and schools is now weaker, and it will take time to rebuild. This is having an effect on attendance and behaviour, nationally.
We endeavour to have a strong community at KG, and we believe that children learn best when school and home work together. In Governors meetings we have been discussing ways in which we can ensure the links between home and school are as strong as they can be, incorporating these strategies into the school priorities.
