Headteacher's Message
This week we had a number of senior leaders from local schools along with an Ofsted inspector, review the teaching and learning across the school. They were incredibly impressed with our children, the standard of work in books, the learning in the classrooms, the school environment and the hard working and dedicated staff.
I also met with a group of local residents to talk about issues such as parking. Please be considerate when parking and avoid driving close to school (within 50M), please never park at or by the school gates. Be careful with litter, there are a number of bins on Kelvin Grove – please use them. If you are waiting for the school gates to open, please do not sit on the walls of gardens, or lean on the fences or parked cars. It is better to wait on the school side of the road, or outside the reception classes. We are a community school and want our children to understand the obligation to the community that brings.
I would like to wish all our families a well-earned rest over the half term break.
Club News
We are delighted to launch our new Science Club next half term for Y5/6 pupils – and will offer this club to Y3/4 pupils the following term.
The club provides the highest quality science activities and experiments to ensure members have fun with science, while gaining a clearer understanding of what science is really about and how it affects the world around them.
Mother Nature Science will be visiting the school on 21st February to present a special ‘Exploring the Solar System’ assembly to showcase the club.
Club places are available on Pay360/EVENTS (£40 for a 5 week-run).
School Journey
Children's Mental Health WK
To shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health, our children and staff have ‘dressed to express’ today. They have worn their favourite colour or a unique outfit to express how they are feeling. Dress to express is an opportunity for self-expression and celebrating a diverse range of emotions. Please remember to make a £2 donation to Place2Be. These funds will help Place2Be to provide the necessary support for children and young people.
World Book Day
School Council
We then looked at the Sustainable Development Goals and worked together and made suggestions for what could be achieved by us in school, and what impact we would like to have. Here are some of our ideas:
- Active travel – more children to ride bikes and encourage walking to school
- Air pollution – Stop smoke from cars
- More time outside
- Chats about how you are feeling on a scale of 1-10
- Being hydrated – having enough healthy snacks and water in school
- Swimming
- Being happy
- Taking care of school resources
- Using less paper and don’t stick work in books
- Don’t laminate as much
- Don’t throw away your lunch
- Treat people with kindness and be respectful
- Raising money for poorer communities.

We all work hard at KG to ensure that we are responsible and sustainable and do the best for our environment. Our children study climate change and the environment in lessons, and they all understand the impacts of human behaviour on the world around us. It’s important that we model good habits to our children so please, please, please can we ask that if you need to drive to school, you do so responsibly? This means considerate parking (please don’t block the top of Dallas Road) and turning off engines whilst waiting. These behaviours are dangerous to not only the environment but to our children and the people who live around the school. Please park in a sensible place slightly further away if necessary and be considerate.
