We have really enjoyed celebrating the Lunar New Year at nursery this week. We have explored using chopsticks, cooking noodles and playing in the Chinese restaurant as well as looking at cultural music and clothes.
The children have enjoyed the story of ‘The Animal Race’ and how the order of the Chinese Zodiac was determined. We used the Zodiac to see which year we were born in and found out that the children were born in either the year of the rooster or dog; and that this year is the year of the tiger!
We have learnt a song about the Chinese Dragon, threading beads for their fire and making our own dragon puppets to dance along with. We have also looked at Chinese writing and numbers and had a go at copying it. We have carefully decorated and cut our own Chinese Lantern which we have used to decorate our classroom.
