Headteacher's Message
The children have made such a wonderful start to the new school year.
I get the opportunity once a week to walk around the school with parents who are choosing a school for their children in September 2023. Comments are made about fantastic learning behaviours, beautiful manners, politeness, kindness and articulation of subject knowledge and this makes me incredibly proud of our children.
It is an important time too for Year 6 children and their parents who must, by the end of October, make the choice of secondary schools they wish to go to. We are here to help and advise if needed, but please make sure you complete the online application in plenty of time. You can read all about the process here: Secondary Transfer
Thank you to all who have attended our year group curriculum meetings. There is nothing more important than the partnership between home and school to ensure your child reaches all the milestones in learning. You can view the year group curriculum mind maps here: Creative Curriculum
Reading is so so important to your child’s enjoyment and success at school. We have adopted the “Little Wandle” scheme to support our phonics and early reading development across the school, children are being challenged to do more reading both at school and at home. Please support us with this.
INSET Day Change
Due to a change in teacher training, we are moving the INSET day from 17th April 2023 to 4th January 2023. This will mean that children will return to school on 5th January for the Spring term and on 17th April for the Summer term. We have updated the term dates on the website to reflect the change. Term Dates 2022-2023
Enrichment CLubs
Our club programme started last week, with some clubs commencing this week – Football Club Y3&4 (Monday) and Football Club Y5&6 (Tuesday).
Groove School, KG Choir and Piano lessons have proved really popular this term, but we are running a waiting list so if any children drop out there is still a chance your child may gain a space. Music Menu
Following the success of England’s Lionesses winning the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 this summer, football has never been so popular with children and particularly women and girls.
Therefore, we have decided to run a Girls’ Only Football Club Y3,4,5&6 (Wednesday) to encourage more young girls to get into the game. We have places available so don’t be shy and come and join the team. Read more here: CLUBS
Parent Tours
Parent tours for prospective parents can now be booked through our website, on the front page and under the admissions tab. Please tell your friends that may be wanting to visit Kelvin Grove for reception places from next September. Book A Tour
Up-Cycled School Uniform
We have a bank of second hand (washed) school uniform. Please use the form below to let us know if you would like any items, noting how many and your child’s age. Simone Daniels from the PTA will get back to you, letting you know if the items are available and where to collect them from. The uniform is free, unless you want to make a donation.

Club Xtra Project
This term in Club Xtra we have been looking at materials that can be reused in art to create fancy designs such as ‘wall art’. We have been learning about the land-fill and the impact our rubbish has on our communities.
What is the purpose of recycled art? This type of art seeks to transform trash such as paper, cardboard, wood, plastics and rubber into works of art. This concept, therefore, goes beyond the conventional recycling of materials by creating objects that exceed the economic, culture and social value of the original product. Its key objective is to raise awareness of global warming and the effect it has on the animals that share our planet. Look out for our beautiful designs in the next few weeks!
SIMS Parent
Just a reminder to all parents and carers to register with SIMS Parent where you can access your child’s records and make any necessary changes as and when you need to; even if you don’t need to make changes, we would greatly appreciate it if you could please still double check the details we have on record for you child, and confirm that no changes need to be made.
Thank you to all those parents and carers that have already registered with SIMS Parent and have updated changes on their child’s records. If you need help, you can read the instructions here: INSTRUCTIONS or contact Neisha in the school office.

Lost Property
All lost property is stored in the ClubXtra cupboard. Alison Jupp, our Club Xtra Manager, will get the lost property out every couple of weeks for parents to look through and find anything they may have missing. Unnamed and uncollected items will be sent to the local charity shop. Alison will next display the lost property by the pod in the main playground on Friday 7th October from 3.00pm to 3.30pm.

Governors' and Friends News
the Governors
We held our first Full Governing Body meeting this week and welcomed our new Community Governor – Tom Slaughter. Tom has a financial background and will sit on the Resources committee. We look forward to him being part of our school.
We were delighted to hear that the tours for prospective parents that Mr Hyde has been running have been incredibly well received. Our students have all made KG a welcoming and exciting place to be and we are incredibly proud of them, as well as the staff. Tours can be booked on the homepage of the KG website.
Finally, if you are in need of uniform, the Friends of KG have set up an online upcycling uniform shop, as you will have read. The governors love this initiative, as it really supports the community of our school, and backs up the DfE guidance on making uniforms more affordable.
If you need to contact the governors, you can email us on: governors@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk
