Headteacher's Message
It’s July, although the weather hasn’t been very much like summer this past week or so. There are three weeks left of this very challenging school year. Sometimes when things get really difficult I come away from my computer, my office, my Zoom meeting or my spreadsheet and take a walk around our school. The one constant that we’ve had in these turbulent times is how brilliant our children our. Their attitudes to learning, their support for one another, their manners and politeness and their resilience and determination to do well. I am the proudest of headteachers.
In the remaining three weeks there is a growing risk that the numbers of COVID cases amongst children will rise. Nationally and locally this is happening. The new variant has some symptoms which are similar to hay fever. As a school we must do our best to reduce the risk of an outbreak here. Therefore, we will continue to send home children who display symptoms along with their siblings. We will ask that you get a PCR test (not lateral flow) and that you inform us of the result of that test before your children return to school. We have been really strict in our procedures and have not had to close a bubble since re-opening in March, this is a testament to the procedures in place and your support. Over 5% of children nationally are out of school at the moment and bubbles are closing in a number of local schools. Please, please help us reduce the risk by following our guidelines and getting a test for your child when we ask you to. We will be doing our best to ensure children still have the opportunity to take part in end of term events. Where possible, we will video or photograph the events so that parents and carers can be involved. I know this cannot replace attending events in person, and I sincerely hope that next year we can once again come together as a community to celebrate all that’s great and “brilliant” about Kelvin Grove.
Parents' Evenings
Children’s annual reports will be sent home on Monday 19th July. Parents’ Evenings will take place online, on Tuesday 20th July, and Wednesday 21st July. We will send a letter home early next week with online booking information.
Nursery September 2021
We have part time and full time nursery places available from September 2021. If you have a little one that will be 3+ in September, contact Louise Watson in the school office to register and prepare to start nursery in September. If you have friends or family that have a little one – please let them know. (lwatson@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk) Thank you.
'Euro So 2021'
Mr Lea and Mr Glenn have written a Euro 2020 song which all the children have learned to sing.
The’ve made a youtube video which the school is going to tweet to Marcus Rashford, Gareth Southgate, Beth English and as many players and celebs as we can think of 🙂 See if you can learn all the actions!

Governors' News
From the Governors
As governors we feel it’s important to give you a better idea of who we are and what we do, so that we can build strong relationships across the school community. Governors are appointed from the local community, staff and parents to provide strategic leadership and accountability for the school. There are 3 sub-committees, each focusing on a different area. Here’s a bit about each committee, and it’s members (click on the members to read more):
The Resources Committee overseas the school’s finances, staffing, along with school premises and health and safety. Rav Athwal (Chair), Shakera Rahman, Mayowa Ochere.
The Pupils, Parents & Community committee is in place to oversee the development of an inclusive and cohesive community at KG. We aim to ensure equal opportunities for all pupils, respecting the diversity of the community we serve. Janine Green (Chair), Alex Bourdelon, Bryan Strom, Zainab Balogun.
The Achievement committee focuses on helping every child in Kelvin Grove succeed. We look at what is being taught and ensure children develop a love of learning through a broad, balanced, and high quality curriculum. We also consider the progress that children are making and champion groups of pupils that face greater barriers in life. Eben Groenwald (Chair), Claire Ackford, Hilary Oppong, Barbara Hoare, Ian Hyde.
If you would like to talk to any of us, or are interested in becoming a governor when we have vacancies, please email us on governors@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk
