Headteacher's Message
I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you all have a couple of weeks rest with your families. It is such a shame that this term has ended with a rising number of COVID cases, both in the school community and nationally. It does not reflect the wonderful term we have had here at Kelvin Grove. There have been so many highlights, just take a look at our website and see.
This last two weeks, teams have been looking at the progress children have made in Reading, Writing and Maths. I am incredibly proud of the children and the teachers and teaching assistants who work so hard to support them.
I hope January allows us to start the term normally on Wednesday 5th January at 8.40am through the designated gates. The ever changing situation with regards to COVID has once again caused great anxiety across school communities. We know that it is likely to continue into 2022 and can only hope that the rules and guidance given, make sense and keep us all safe.
Have a merry Christmas and here is a message from Jade Class:
You can watch the performances for clubs and all year groups via the following link:
School Library
Our school library is up and running and the children are thoroughly enjoying the time they are spending reading and sharing books, and some of them are borrowing books to take home to read too. As a parent or friend of the school, if you have time that you are willing to spare to help out in the library, please can you let Katie Campbell (Year 5 teacher) know on: kcampbell@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk. Thank you.
Christmas Jumper Day
Thank you to everyone who wore their Christmas jumpers on Thursday of last week and made a donation. We raised a brilliant £285.60 for Save the Children – thank you so much.
Groove School
Kelvin Grove is launching its exciting new music club ‘Groove School’ for Year 4,5&6 pupils in January 2022., if circumstances allow.
Children will specialise in either GUITAR or FLUTE plus they will take part in Samba Band and song writing and Mr Glenn will teach members how to write and perform grooves on the guitar and the Flute. Working together on their chosen instrument the children will study song writing, riffs and grooves from classic tracks and how to perform live.
We are asking parents to pre-register their interest now as places are limited – simply send an email entitled ‘Groove School FLUTE’ or ‘Groove School GUITAR’ along with your child’s name and class to lwatson@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk
We plan to launch Groove School on Thursday 20th January 2022 (10 week run) which will cost £80 with payment due in advance via Pay360 – our online payment system.
So get in the groove and join today via email!
Clubs
We have been working on our club programme for next term, however, due to the current rising cases of COVID, plus uncertainty surrounding the new term, we have decided to announce the available clubs as soon as it is practically possible.
Scouting has come to KG
The 2nd Sydenham Scout Group has moved into its new home at Kelvin Grove school and we’re very excited to be bringing Scouting opportunities to the students and to Sydenham as a whole.
Our thriving Scout Troop, 10 ½ – 14yr olds, meets on Tuesdays 7.30 – 9.00pm (during term time). If you’re interested in joining us in the new year register your child here.
In the new year we plan to open a Beaver Colony for 6 – 8yr olds and a Cub Pack for 8 – 10 ½yr olds, in order to do so we’ll need your support to volunteer and form a team of adults to organise them.
Register you interest to volunteer and help grow Scouting at Kelvin Grove here and scroll down to see the ‘Opportunities to get involved’. Watch out for future notifications, and have a very Happy Holiday Season.
