The children of Mint Class have had an exciting week since returning to school. Our topic this term is ‘Windrush’ and to launch this we have looked at a poem by John Agard called ‘The Windrush Child’. First the children immersed into the poem by listening and imagining it in their mind’s eye. They then spent time drawing pictures of what the poem made them think, feel and see. The children then went into performing the poem in their own way. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Talmud Bah who came into speak about his Caribbean background and to give children tips on performance poetry. The children used these tips to practise and perform their poems to the class. Their combined poem of the class is available for you to view on Seesaw and is below. We have currently begun reading the story ‘Coming to England’ by Floella Benjamin. This story is based on real life events. The children have been enjoying comparing and contrasting life and school in Trinidad and the UK.
In Maths, we have begun the unit on ‘Time’. The children have been working hard on telling time to the o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to the hour.
