At Kelvin Grove we aim to provide a curriculum which ignites curiosity in our children and will enable them to become motivated, resilient and successful learners.
At the heart of our curriculum is the well-being of our pupils. We are working hard to ensure effective practice and provision is in place that promotes emotional well-being, embedding an ethos where mental health is regarded as the responsibility of all.
Staff at Kelvin Grove work collaboratively to build upon the requirements of the National Curriculum through ambitious, enquiry-led learning opportunities. We design Learning Journeys with clear subject specialisms, making meaningful links between them. These enable children to develop skills in different subject areas, acquiring a depth of knowledge which they build upon year after year. Learning Journeys provide opportunities for pupils to apply English and maths across the wider curriculum. We create memorable experiences for our pupils through topic launches, visits and visitors – using the wealth of local resources to good advantage.
We aim for pupils to develop a rich and subject-specific vocabulary and nurturing a love of reading across the curriculum is key to this. All staff have high expectations of pupil talk and understand that classroom dialogue is essential to thinking and learning.
All school leaders play a vital role in designing the curriculum, ensuring that it reflects the community we serve. Through regular monitoring and evaluation, we review the teaching and learning of different subjects.

Kelvin Grove provides a highly inclusive environment where all learners at all levels are helped to achieve. The curriculum design ensures that the needs of individual and small groups of children can be met within the environment of high quality teaching, supported by targeted, high quality interventions where appropriate. Our school endeavours to grow and maintain strong community links which give our pupils a true sense of belonging.
