Yesterday, we continued planning our diary entry, based on the short film, ‘The Lighthouse’. We used our planning sheets, which included each main event, how the lighthouse keeper was feeling at each stage, and fronted adverbials to orally rehearse our sentences to our partners. Today, we used that planning grid and what we rehearsed yesterday to begin writing our diaries.
In Maths, we have been rounding – first of all to the nearest 10 and then today, we were rounding to the nearest 100. We began by using a number line, identifying the multiples of 10 or 100 either side and then seeing which multiple it is closest to. Once we had mastered that, we learnt to look at the appropriate digit in the numbers and decide if we need to round up or down, using the rhyme, “5 and above give it a shove, 4 and below, let it go.”
In Whole Class Guided Reading, we are reading ‘The Iron Man’. We have been given opportunities to read the text, focusing on reading with fluency and intonation. We also discussed what we have read as a class and reacted to it. Yesterday we talked about whether we think the Iron Man is a threat to the village or not, and wrote a letter of advice to the farmers.
