In English, we have been reading the book ‘The Leopard’s Drum’ by Jessica Souhami. We have had fun designing our very own drums and making wanted posters for Nyame Sky God. We also completed a book talk where we discussed our likes, dislikes and shared our opinions about different parts of the book. We’ve learnt to retell the story using the Pie Corbett actions and this week we have begun to write our own versions or retelling the original version.

In Maths, we have continued to look at numbers within ten and reinforcing our number knowledge. We have been using part part whole models, tens frames and counting objects to help us with this. We have explored that two parts combined together make and expression i.e. 5+3 and we have also looked at the commutative i.e. 3+5. Last week we started looking at how two parts combined together make a whole and we have been writing equations for different visual representations. We have been using the plus and equals to symbols and writing equations. We also looked at writing equations where we have the total first i.e. 8= 3+5 or 8= 3+5.

This half term, our topic is ‘Toys R Us’. We have really enjoyed learning about the history of toys and discussing the different materials which they are made from and their properties. We had the opportunity to play with toys from the past and discuss how these were similar or different to toys nowadays. Last week, we begun to make our very own toys out of recycled materials. We will be painting them and decorating them this week. We also had the opportunity to bring in our favourite toys which we got to share with our peers and looking at the different materials which they were are made of.
