The children at Nursery have really enjoyed our topic on Eric Carle and reading a selection of his stories. The children have particularly enjoyed reading together ‘Polar Bear, Polar Bear, what do you hear?’ and ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?’ They then went on an exploration walk around the nursery, listening and looking just like the story.
We have also had a very special delivery of live caterpillars. The children have been totally fascinated by them. We have observed, drawn them, and now a set have cocooned and have been transferred to the net. The children are now waiting patiently to see how long it will take for them to transform into beautiful butterflies; that we can release into Forest School.
Alongside our live caterpillars we have read and explored Eric Carle’s story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and talked about what we like to eat when we are hungry and talked about the life cycle of the caterpillar. As well as discussing how our butterflies will look. Will they be as colourful as the butterfly in the story? We just have to wait and see!
