In English, our text has been ‘Goldilocks and Just One Bear.’ This is a twist to the original fairy tale where Goldilocks and Baby Bear meet again but this time as grown-ups. Bear wanders out of the woods and gets lost in the big city. He then makes his way into a tower where he eats, sits and has a nice nap. When he wakes up, he sees grown up Goldilocks and her family. The children loved this version of the story and have completed lots of writing around the text. Some of our writing has included a lost poster, a letter in the role of Bear, retelling the key parts of the story, making inferences about how Bear felt at different parts of the story and comparing this version to the original fairy tale. The children have been focussing on using capital letters, full stops, exclamation marks, questions marks, adjectives and simple conjunctions. This week we will be planning and writing our very own version of the story.
In Maths, we have started to look at counting in multiples of two, five and ten and using this to help us with our unit on Money. The children have been taught about all the different coins and notes we use and their value. They’ve compared the values of different coins and notes and ordered them from smallest to largest. We’ve also used coins to make totals to buy items. The children have begun to explore how to make the same total in different ways.
This half term, our topic is ‘City to Seaside.’ We have been learning about the features of the local area and city. We used Google Earth to compare the city to the seaside and looked at the features which are the same and different. We will be visiting the top of the Horniman Museum to get a glimpse of the city and towards the end of the term, the seaside. We are looking forward to our trip!
In Art, we have started our Take One Artist Project. This year our artist in Yayoi Kusama. We have enjoyed learning all about her and her art work. We have designed our very own Artist pages where we have drawn some of her work, wrote about her and gone dot crazy. Have a look below:
