Copper Class have had a great start to Y6. On our first day back we had an exciting launch to our topic ‘The Mysterious Maya.’ We got to make our own Mayan-inspired hot chocolate, explore the Mayan number system (did you know they use Base 20 instead of Base 10?) and try our hands at writing some Mayan glyphs. It was so much fun. We’ve continued our learning about the Maya in different areas of the curriculum.
In Whole Class Reading we are reading a fantastic (and very thick!) book called Middleworld. It’s about a boy called Max whose parents are archaeologists who are obsessed with the Maya.
In English, we are reading a book called ‘Rain Player’ which is about a legendary pok-ta-pok player called Pik who lands himself in a bit of trouble… One of the best bits about Year 6 is that on three afternoons during the week, we rotate in three mixed groups for our topic lessons. One day you have History, another day it’s Computing and on the third day you get to have Art. We have really enjoyed Year 6 so far and can’t wait for the rest of the year!
