Copper Class have had a great first half term in Year 6. It’s been so much fun – and nowhere near as scary as we all thought it would be. We’ve realised that what our teachers told us at the start of the year was true – that Y6 is all about hard work, independence and giving the best version of yourself. We are enjoying using our very smart Y6 planners and feel very excited about the French trip that is coming up after our SATs next year.
This week, as part of our ‘Evolution and Inheritance’ topic, we conducted a science experiment. Our investigation question was ‘can you extract DNA from all fruits’? We had to mash up a selection of fruit. We used strawberries, oranges, blueberries, grapes and tomatoes. We then made a lysis solution, which when mixed with the fruits enabled the DNA to be extracted! The DNA looked a lot like slime. We found out that we were able to extract the most DNA from the strawberries. It was a lot of fun. We can’t wait to see what Autumn 2 has in store!
