Emerald launched into their latest Learning Journey ‘Quakes and Shakes’ by researching volcanoes to create interactive posters and working in teams to create 3D volcanoes from plastic bottles, paper and mod roc. The children loved the experience and came away bubbling with new information. Children shared insights into the volcanoes they had visited on holiday or knew about from reading.
In English, we discussed wishes we would like to come true and some of the most memorable included ‘I wish the energy crisis was over’ and ‘I wish my dad could work less and spend more time with us’. This lead us to the story of ‘Winter’s Child’ where a boy wishes for Winter to never end.
In maths, we are looking at bar models and how they can be useful in solving addition and subtraction problems. In PSHCE, we are learning about setting goals and the resilience needed to achieve them. We are also learning to break big goals down into smaller, achievable steps. In Science, we are learning to describe the different characteristics of rocks and use this to sort them into different groups.
