In Mint class this week, we’ve been learning about the Groovy Greeks. In History, we’ve learnt about how the Greeks came up with the idea of democracy. We also used secondary sources to collect facts about Sparta and Athens, the two most popular Greek states. Did you know that boys were trained from the age of 7 years old in order to become soldiers?
In Maths, we’ve been learning how to use partitioning to divide a two-digit number by a 1-digit number. We have noticed that knowing our times tables has been extremely helpful!
In English we’re going to be planning and writing our own myths. This week we had an opportunity to choose and describe our beast. In Guided Reading, we’re studying a book called ‘Leo and the Gorgon’s Curse’. This graphic novel is about an unlikely hero who undoubtedly gets himself into a bit of trouble. Today we had to decide if the protagonist in the story should reveal his secret or continue doing what he feels is the right thing.
In Art, we sketched designs that were inspired by Ancient Greek pots. On Thursday, we made stencils and used these to print a design in our Art books. We are looking forward to a fabulous week of learning!
