What a fantastic start to the term we have had in Orchid class! This half term our topic is ‘We Are Environmentalists.’ In English we have read the book ‘The Big Book of the Blue’ by Yuval Zommer where we have explored different sea creatures including jellyfish, whales, sharks and seahorses. We’ve learnt some interesting facts and have loved exploring under the sea. We have been busy making our very own ‘Big Book of Blue,’ which is filled with fun facts and pictures of the different sea creatures we’ve looked at.
In Maths, we have been learning about counting on mentally to add and using a number line to check our answers. We’ve also been introduced to number sentences using + and =. We have enjoyed making our own number lines in the playground to count on.
In Topic, we have been learning all about the land and sea. We’ve looked at maps of the United Kingdom and identified where the land, sea and sand is. The children have enjoyed drawing their very own maps representing the above. We’ve also been looking at how to draw sea creatures. The children have been able to follow step by step instructions to draw a shark, a jellyfish and a crab.
