It has been a fantastic term in Coral Class. This term our topic is ‘Amazing Animals and to launch our topic we had a visit from a company called ‘Spirit of the Wild’. They had a whole range of amazing animals for us to meet including meerkats, toads, snakes and owls! During our session we had to classify and sort all the animals into the five different groups; mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and fish.
It was incredible seeing animals from each of these groups and we were lucky enough to be able to handle and pet them with care! We also had the privilege of meeting ‘Archie’ the Giant Turquoise stick insect from Madagascar who was brought in by Mick our school chef.
In maths we have being looking at ‘part whole models’ and exploring all the different ways to make the whole number. In English Year 1 have been learning all about non-chronological reports, we have looked at a non-chronological report on Polar Bear’s to understand the features included. Did you know Polar Bears have an amazing sense of smell and can smell their prey from 20 miles away?! This week they have eagerly started researching penguins to write their own non-chronological report on. Did you know penguins have flippers instead of wings? We can’t wait for you to read them!
