The last couple of weeks have been extremely busy in Lavender Class. We have been finishing off drafting our news reports and publishing them in English. The article was about ‘The Hardest Night’ of the Blitz and we were learning to use journalistic language and turn quotations into direct and reported speech.
In Maths, we finished off Multiplication and Division by investigating square and cube numbers and we have now moved on to Statistics, where we have been interpreting two-way tables and line graphs.
We have also been very busy in Science, investigating which liquid will make metal nails rust the quickest, and making a new material (plastic) using milk and vinegar. It didn’t smell very nice but it was interesting to see the plastic that we created.
In addition to all of our learning in the classroom, we have been busy with educational visits too. We went on a local walk around Sydenham to locate houses that were bombed during WW2.
We were also lucky enough to be able to give five Year 5 children the opportunity to go to the Foreign Office. The students were invited to speak at the event to talk about what human rights means to them and why it is important to hear children’s voices when discussing human rights.
