It has been a fantastic start to the year in Mint class!
This term in Maths, we have been consolidating our 2, 10 and 5 times tables and related division facts. We have also been learning our 3, 4 and 8 times tables, and solving problems involving these facts.
In Science, we have learnt the names of various rocks and found different ways of classifying them. Last week, we discovered how fossils were made and created fact files with lots of interesting facts. Fossilisation is actually quite rare as most living things decompose quite quickly. Did you know there are even fossils on Mars? We have also designed investigations to test the hardness of a range of rocks and the permeability of different soils.
In English, we’re reading the book ‘Winter’s Child’ by Angela McAllister. It’s a winter fable about a boy called Tom who wishes winter would never end. In our learning we have learnt how to use expanded noun phrases and prepositions in our sentences.
This week in Geography, we are learning about volcanoes and what causes them to erupt. Did you know that the tallest volcano is Eyjafjallajökull? Shockingly, it measures 1,666m tall! Imagine that! We have also begun making large volcanoes from papier mâché! Stay tuned to see them finished soon.
It’s been an exciting four weeks so far and we’re looking forward to our last week of learning.
