We have had so much fun in Jade Class learning all about the Ancient Greeks and what they have done for us. We have learnt about Alexander the Great and the Greek Empire. Did you know that he had one blue eye and one brown eye? We also had a go at writing our names using the Greek alphabet. We discovered that democracy was founded in Athens in Ancient Greece although it is a much fairer system today! As part of our ‘Groovy Greek’ topic, we have been inspired to write our own Greek myths in English. We created our own hero or heroine and a mythical beast.
As part of our home learning, we have been busy making models of Ancient Greek Parthenon’s and creating some amazing, mouth watering Greek dishes!
In Maths, we have been learning to multiply and divide using the partitioning method. We learned how to exchange to make some division problems easier to work out. We then showed off our learning by solving word problems.
We’ve had a fantastic time in our Design and Technology lessons, this week we have been sewing! It has been incredibly fiddly work but very rewarding once we built up our sewing skills. We have learnt to thread a needle and been learning the running stitch to create a simple cushion, we even stuffed them ourselves!
In whole class reading, we have been reading a book called ‘Earth shattering events’ by Robin Jacobs. It’s all about natural disasters such as earthquakes, Tsunamis and avalanches. We have been making predictions using images, summarising information and retrieving and recording information using evidence from the text.
