Azure Class thoroughly enjoyed the launch of our Anglo Saxons and Vikings topic! We had an active drama workshop with Perform which took us through the key dates of the Anglo Saxon and Viking era (helping us to learn those important dates too!) We also explored the many different reasons why the Anglo Saxons and Vikings came to Britain. Did you know the Anglo Saxons came to help the Roman Army? We were then incredibly fortunate enough to see and handle some real Anglo Saxon and Viking artefacts! During this activity we had a class discussion about the difference between primary and secondary sources. From looking at the primary sources we were able to conclude that the Anglo Saxons were amazing crafts people – they were able to make jewellery, weave cloth and carve intricate details into wooden objects.
In English we have been learning about the epic Anglo Saxon poem Beowulf and we wrote our own retellings of the story. Like Anglo Saxons, we enjoyed the bloody and brutal fights between Beowulf and Grendel, and Grendel’s mother.
In Maths we have been learning about fractions and how our multiplication facts can help up with these. We are very proud of our times tables work and we have been working extra hard trying to turn our heatmaps green on Times Tables Rock Stars.
