Our Topic this half term is “We are Environmentalists”. The children have been doing fun activities in all areas of the curriculum related to the Ocean and distinguishing the difference between what happens on land and in the sea. They also have been learning about what kind of animals live in the sea and finding out interesting facts. Did you know there are about one million types of animals living in the ocean?!
Our first book we read was “Tiddler – the storytelling fish”. We made sea scenes using playdough, made a variety of sea creatures and wrote a reason why we thought Tiddler was late. The next book introduced was “The Big Book of Blue”, which was full of fascinating facts about all types of sea creatures. We learnt that jellyfish have no brain, bones or blood, Crabs can send messages to each other by tapping on rocks, the pufferfish is the only fish that can blink and turtles have see-through eyelids that are used like a pair of goggles to see underwater!
Our last book we have been looking at is“Somebody swallowed Stanley”. This is focusing on protecting sea creatures by not throwing plastic into the sea. This is leading us into talking about recycling.
We also had a trip to The Horniman Museum early in the half-term. It was a wonderful day where everyone had a fabulous time.
