Year 6 have had an amazing week after all their hard work completing the SATs last week. Some of Year 6 have gone on a residential trip to Normandy in France and those of us at school are having a mixed week of different activities and learning. We started an art project on Monday where we have learnt about the art of Mandala’s. It’s an interesting, complex technique of creating patterns that originated from Buddhism. They were produced in Tibet, India, Nepal, China, Japan, Bhutan, and Indonesia and date from the 4th century to present day. We have enjoyed using different drawing mediums and fine liners to create traditional Mandela patterns and create our own. It’s an incredibly peaceful process where we have been able to get lost in the symmetry of the design.
On Tuesday we had a fantastic trip to Frylands Wood Scout Outdoor Centre. We took part in different activities through out the day including climbing a traverse wall (this was where we climbed along a wall rather than going up it), completing the inflatable bungee-run (or at least attempting too!) and team building exercises where we had to work as a group to build a barrel cart and then got to ride on it across a field! It was such a blast and we had an excellent day.
Today we had a French themed cookery day with Mrs Blanks and Miss Pais. We began by making Breton Salted Butter Sablés, which were hard to resist eating before the afternoon as they smelt so good! We also made cherry clafoutis and tarte aux pommes to enjoy during our movie afternoon.
We’re looking forward to tomorrow where we’ll be having more sports fun with a surprise activity led by Mr Hyde in the afternoon.
