On Wednesday, we spent the day exploring the beautiful city of Bayeux!
Our morning began with a trip into town for our exciting market challenge. The task? To shop for ingredients and create the most tempting lunch, while sticking to a €25 budget! The market was bustling with locals and full of tempting smells and colourful displays. Everything looked and smelled savoureux, making it hard to decide what to buy! Working in our day groups, we used our best French to greet stallholders and make our purchases. Most groups opted for a mix of; fresh fruits, baguettes, cheeses, meats, or crepes, and one group chose a chocolate and strawberries themed dessert lunch. A few clever budgeters even managed to get whipped cream for that extra touch, quel plaisir!

Back at the château, we worked together in the dining room to prep our lunches, paying close attention to presentation as the château staff judged our efforts. While all the lunches looked delicious, we later found out that Miss Hudson’s group had won. It was a very close call!

Although the weather turned rainy in the afternoon, it definitely didn’t dampen our spirits. We returned to Bayeux to visit the incredible Bayeux Tapestry and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Bayeux. At the Musée de la Tapisserie, we followed the story of William, Duke of Normandy, and the Battle of Hastings through audio guides as we viewed the famous tapestry. It was amazing to see such a detailed piece of history up close.
Afterwards, we visited the nearby Cathedral of Our Lady of Bayeux, which was calm, beautiful, and full of history. We especially enjoyed the stunning stained glass windows and exploring the crypts below.

Back at the château, we enjoyed a cosy and fun rainy afternoon watching Raya and the Last Dragon and playing games indoors. Tonight’s activity was karaoke, and it was such a hit—we had so much fun singing our favourite songs together and cheering each other on.

We’re now tucked up and looking forward to tomorrow’s adventure to Mont Saint-Michel, with some sunshine finally on the way!
