Day 3 has been another incredibly busy and memorable one here at Nethercott Farm!
A firm favourite activity has quickly become grooming the horses and donkeys. We’ve loved brushing out their coats, keeping them clean and healthy, and of course giving them the occasional extra carrot treat! It’s such a lovely way to bond with them, and we already know we’re going to miss them so much when it’s time to leave.
We also had the chance to hold the chickens, which was a brilliant experience. They were surprisingly cuddly and much calmer than some of us expected.
Group 3 headed down to the Spinney for forest school, where creativity was in full flow. We worked together to create our own tools and even built a swing, which everyone was very impressed actually worked (and worked very well!). We also learnt how to craft little wooden hearts from sticks, showing great patience and teamwork.
One of the biggest highlights of the day was getting to hold the baby chicks. Some had only recently hatched, and we were incredibly gentle and careful with them.
In a truly unexpected and special moment, we were honoured to meet Michael Morpurgo while clearing out the stables with our wheelbarrows! We got to talk with him about farm life, and we’re secretly hoping he might find time to read us one of his stories before the week is out.
It was a full and eventful day, packed with fun and, as always, more fantastic food. Mealtimes have been a great opportunity to try new things, and there’s certainly never a shortage! We’re really enjoying sharing this experience with our friends (both old and new) in our dorms, and we’re excited to get back out on the farm again today.
