In brass class we looked at the book Rebound by Kwame Alexander, which is about a young boy’s love of basketball. Interestingly, the story is told entirely through poetry! We selected a few and worked on our performance poetry skills, using tempo, volume, rhythm to convey the tone and message of the poem. Continuing with the theme of sports, we then used two other pieces written by athletes to create our own blackout poetry. This is done by selecting words from the text, then drawing over the rest so that the remaining words create a new poem. The pieces we made are truly stunning and we’ve proven ourselves to be naturally talented poets! 🛂🏅🏑🏀🏓
