Spring has arrived, bears have begun to stir and awaken from hibernation. This week in Green Class we have been creating and reading our sensory Story based on the book `We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. To get the children hooked from the start we had a whole morning linked to the book. When the children came into school there were bear footprints on the floor in the classroom and in the corridor and a bear cave in the Sensory Room. We began to learn the story and then carried out lots of activities linked to the book. The children loved making an edible Bear Cave snack and Bear puppets. We got to feel mud, water, pretend snow, and grass with our hands. They also went on a bear hunt outside and physically walked through each environment on their hunt (grass, water, mud, large branches-forest, snowstorm) until they finally found a bear in a cave!!! The children had lots of fun and are already reciting the story independently.
