What a start to the new term in Mint class! The children have been so excited reading the news report about the minotaur sighting at Crystal Palace park that some even took to investigating it themselves! If you haven’t heard the news, then you better get reading or better still ask one of the Year 3 children because they know all about it as they have been in touch with Professor Clough from The Natural history Museum who is currently investigating this newest finding. The two weeks has flown by with children corresponding with the professor to keep abreast with Greek mythical beasts. They have written a sound non-chronological report on minotaurs and will be researching and writing about another mythical beast of their choice in order to get their report published in the Professor’s next publication.
In Maths too we have had a fantastic time exploring different fractions. We have been estimating and comparing fractions using rice. We made a human fraction line in order to compare fractions and to see that every time the denominator increases the fraction decreases. But the most fun was when we had to make our very own fraction rulers in order to accurately mark fractions on a number line!
Here are some examples of children hard at work concentrating on your fraction rulers!
This week we will be designing and creating our very own mythical beasts out of clay!
