Turquoise worked hard to achieve their tenth marble last week and we celebrated with a pizza and board games afternoon which was tons of fun! We are certainly looking forward to attaining our next ten marbles this year (we have 5 already!).
In Science, we walked to Well’s Park and used identification sheets to name trees from their leaves, twigs, fruits and catkins. We made observational drawings and recorded our findings.
In History we looked at the first laws introduced in Ancient Rome following the threat of the lower classes leaving the city and debated on whether those laws would work today and why. We worked in partners to choose 3 laws to keep and came to the front of the class to defend our choices. Our classmates had to vote on whether they felt convinced to keep the laws based on our defense of them.
In Maths, we have completed our learning on fractions and moved on to decimals and dividing by 10 by converting single digits to tenths first.
In Guided Reading, we have been following the story of ‘The Captive Celt’ and learning to retrieve answers from the text and infer using evidence in the text.
In English, we have started to explore the story of ‘Cinnamon’, a blind girl from a small country who doesn’t speak. We have looked at the impact this has on her parents and used figurative language to create a poem about the tiger who visits her.
