This week in Lavender Class, we have been very busy studying the topic of Space. Here are some of the highlights.
In English we have been studying the book ‘Hidden Figures’ by Margot Lee Shetterly – which is fascinating. We have been writing diary entries as Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson. As part of the lessons, we have watched clips from the film, and we are now in the process of writing a speech as Mary Jackson asking to be allowed to become a student at an all white school. It is very powerful.
In Science, we have been learning about how the length of a shadow changes over the course of the day, and why this happens. It has been fascinating. We carried out an experiment on the playground measuring the length of shadows at hourly intervals.
When doing DTec, we’ve designed our very own moon rovers. We plan on testing the final products on sand and bubble wrap to replicate the moon’s surface. These rovers will be either balloon or elastic bands.
Wednesday 14th July, Lavender, Indigo and Violet Classes all participate in the Year 5 Sports Day. We’re eagerly looking forward to hearing which class has won.
