This week Year 6 have been continuing their learning about the Maya. They are thoroughly enjoying the texts ‘Middleworld’ by J & P Voelkel and ‘The Rain Player’ by David Wisniewski.
So far, the exciting and mysterious book, ‘Middleworld’ has introduced us to an interesting teenage boy called Max who is less than pleased about having to join his workaholic archaeologist parents in San Xavier (a fictional country in Central America). After a long journey, Max arrives in San Xavier to discover some unexpected surprises. The children have enjoyed making links, sharing their opinions and making predictions about what is likely to happen next.
In English, the children have been continuing to immerse themselves in ‘The Rain Player’ and have written some fantastic short narratives with dialogue. It has been wonderful to see and hear all of their creative ideas during these lessons – so watch this space for examples of some fantastic examples of their writing!
Our new computing programme has been a big hit! Last week the children were learning about search engines and this week we have been focusing on elements of online safety such as sourcing valid information on the Internet and keeping ourselves safe.
