Year 6 have had a great first few days back. Our new topic is called ‘Land of the rising sun’ and we are learning all about Japan! This week, we immersed ourselves in all things Japanese, including origami, sudoku and wacky inventions. For the rest of the term, we will be focussing on the geography of Japan and comparing Tokyo to London and we will use our knowledge to write travel guides.
In English, we have been studying poetry. We read ‘The Dreadful Menace’, a poem written for a winter Olympics advert. We discussed how personification is used to make winter seem threatening and dangerous and illustrated the most powerful lines from the poem. Now we can’t wait to write our own poem about volcanoes and we’ve come up with lots of amazing figurative language to describe these deadly mountains.
